More combinations per hand
A four-card hand contains six possible two-card combinations. A five-card hand contains ten. The extra pairings create more ways to make straights, flushes, sets and redraws.
Equities can become denser
With more hole-card combinations, players connect with a larger share of boards. Premium-looking made hands can face more redraws and multiway equities can become especially complex.
Nut potential remains central
Additional combinations do not remove domination. They increase the importance of identifying which draws are to the nuts and which are vulnerable to higher combinations or stronger redraws.
Exact-hand comparison
When reviewing a known all-in, enter all four or five cards accurately. Removing the fifth card or substituting a similar-looking rank can change several two-card combinations at once.
Range comparison
A PLO5 range is not a four-card range with one random card attached. Selection effects and structural density change which five-card combinations reach a spot. Use ranges defined for the correct variant.
